Plastic neck ties....

emmmmm....not good. I noticed that when Cynthia Diane went into the hospital this summer she came back with that plastic zip-tie; even after I had enclosed a note specifically telling them that I wanted her string put back in.

I did not press it as I was so glad to have her home. I have noticed that her head does not turn easily any more. The new zip-tie thing is too tight.

I also agree 100% with AsianAG that there is an ulterior motive behind the plastic zips. It does prevent self maintenance and give AG Hospital a monopoly.....I guess its' time for me to email and call CS. As much $$ as I spend there and will continue to spend, I expect them to maintain a quality product worth the prices we customers pay.

Responding to the ? above about new dolls - we have Jess and Elizabeth who just arrived and neither have the plastic ties. They both have strings.

Our PS told us that Samantha is the best selling doll and I thought that Molly was right up there as well. I'll have to ask her again.

If they are really making the dolls like this I would like every one of my dolls to have the cord in the back esspeccally Elizabeth I brush her hair a lot. Any doll that has long hair such as Samantha, Felicity or the AGT's Exculeding #22 #23 and Jess because they have shorter hair should have the cords because the strings could get caught in the poor dolls ponytail. I also have done this when traveling with a doll I can never leave home without a doll but when I take them out of the house I put thier hair in a ponytail or braids just in case it might be windy or rainy outside to save me from having to brush out thier hair for so long.

As a doll-maker and sewer (amateur!), I can echo the comments that this probably makes manufacturing cheaper. Zip-ties are much easier to install in a doll than a cord. They go into the opening without any additional tools since they?re already stiff, whereas with a cloth cord you do have to run it through with a tool (such as a safety pin). The positive of zip-ties is that they can be tightened a LOT more than material ties. They tighten themselves (you just pull on the zip) *and* self-lock, whereas with material ties a person has to make a knot. So it does make sense that less heads would fall off when zip-ties are used.

There are actually positives and negatives to both . . . it just depends on what you want personally and if you want to work on the doll on your own.

For little girls the zip-ties might be a benefit since heads will pop off less, and the strings won't get caught in clothing.

I like the thought of someone taking the time to put the neck string in manually. It just shows that an individual put some unique thought or effort into the doll.

For $100 a doll, seriously, they should still do the neck strings.

I can see how it would be harder for kids to lose the head w/ a zip tie, but the neck strings are tied on awfully tight, too.

We have one doll, Kit, with the plastic tie, but she was purchased off Ebay a few years ago.
Her head is harder to turn.
